3/3 Update

Madeline had another big day yesterday. While we were in church in the morning, we got a call from the NICU to tell us that she had been extubated and on top of that, she'd been moved to a different section of the NICU for more stable babies. Our prayers keep continuing to be answered!

Being the ultra-competitive person that I am, hearing that she was in the top 2 of the 10-15 babies in the NICU gave me a huge thrill. Other than all of that commotion for her, she's started feeding and that has gone well so far. They've started increasing the amounts and it should take about a week to get her to the amount she should be at. The big hurdle for the feeding is making sure her tummy can handle the milk and that she doesn't get an infection. Each day and week that go by decreases the risk of infection and we're just hopeful that she can make it through with as little incident as possible. She's also going to stay on the ram cannula until the doctors are satisfied that she can handle breathing on her own which could be awhile.

Kristen and I spent most of the weekend in the hospital as can be expected and the kangaroo care helps us (and Madeline) so much. Especially now that she's not intubated, we can see her face and facial expressions clearer and it's impossible to describe how much fun it is.

Next up is getting some meat on those bones (or in this case, cartilage)!
